Forms/ Classes

Each child is allocated to a Form/Class which is supervised and monitored by a Class Teacher (Nursery to Year 4) or Form Tutor (Years 5-8). This is an important element in our pastoral system. There is registration and form time first thing in the morning, and registration takes place again at lunch time.

Houses

When they start at Feltonfleet, all pupils join one of four Houses: Badgers, Foxes, Otters and Tigers. Whole School House Meetings take place regularly, enabling all pupils within each house to mix with older and younger children and staff, and work collaboratively on challenges and at House Events.

Our cross year Houses give plenty of opportunities for pupils of all ages to mix and have fun together. Mixed age collaboration is also incredibly valuable because it offers our older children the opportunity to adapt their language and social skills to relate with younger children; learning patience, compassion and problem solving skills. Equally our younger children benefit from the challenge of being with older children; often engaging in more complex activities than when they play with same age peers.

Year Groups

A Year Leader has a broad pastoral responsibility for the pupils within each year group. The year group staff meet each week to discuss issues with the Year Leader.

  • In the Pre-Prep welfare is under the leadership of the Head of Pre-Prep and the Deputy Head of Pre-Prep who meet weekly with the year group teams.
  • In the Prep School the Year Leaders meet with Section Leaders and the Deputy Head (Pastoral) on a weekly basis, together with the Head of Boarding and Head of Learning Enrichment.

These teams of pastoral staff are known as the Pastoral/Welfare Teams. Together they share and discuss issues of pastoral concern relating to pupils and then communicate appropriately with other relevant staff. This process ensures all staff are aware of any pupil’s needs and concerns, so that we can all play a part in supporting their welfare.

If you have a welfare concern, talk to your child’s Class Teacher or Form Tutor in the first instance. Refer to our Who's Who to find out more.
